Consultant Physician – Emergency

About the role

The Consultant Physician – Emergency will lead and supervise the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based emergency care at SSMC. The role involves diagnosing, managing and treating patients across the emergency department while providing clinical leadership and training to junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and implement hospital, departmental and divisional policies, including performance management, peer review and utilization review processes.
• Oversee clinical activities of junior medical staff, ensuring safe and effective patient care.
• Participate in on-call rotation covering evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Conduct ward rounds, reassess in‑patients and out‑patients, and document clinical information promptly.
• Coordinate with other specialties and support services, and take part in multidisciplinary meetings.
• Support quality improvement, audit culture, incident reporting and continuous learning.
• Assist Division Chief with scheduling, recruitment, and administrative duties.

Required profile

• Post‑board certification with at least 2 years (Tier 1) or 8 years (Tier 2) of consultant‑level experience, or equivalent clinical fellowship counted double for UAE nationals.
• Current national medical license and proof of yearly CME.
• Compliance with SSMC policies, regulatory requirements and confidentiality standards.
