Director of Laboratory Services & Outreach

About the role

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer and working closely with the Chief of Pathology, the Director of Laboratory Services & Outreach will lead the laboratory’s strategic growth, quality management and cost‑effective delivery of services across the hospital and its clinics.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a Quality Management plan, laboratory dashboards and oversee Quality Improvement initiatives in partnership with the Performance Improvement Department.
• Lead the creation and revision of policies and procedures that ensure patient safety, accreditation compliance (JCIA, CAP) and optimal laboratory layout.
• Manage laboratory budgeting, capital expenditure, staffing and benchmarking to control testing costs while supporting staff morale and professional development.
• Formulate and execute a strategic outreach and marketing plan for laboratory services, including support for clinic‑based testing.
• Participate in hospital‑wide quality committees, promote a safe work environment and uphold ethical standards and patient confidentiality.

Required profile

• North American Board Certification or equivalent Western Board Certification in Clinical Pathology.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Clinical Pathologist in a CAP‑accredited laboratory, including at least 3 years in a Director of Laboratory Services & Outreach role.
• Proven experience in performance evaluation, quality improvement methodologies and development of laboratory policies and procedures.
