English & Theory of Knowledge Teacher (IB DP)

About the role

GEMS International School – Dubai Hills is seeking an experienced English teacher with the enthusiasm to deliver Theory of Knowledge (TOK) for the IB Diploma Programme starting August 2026. The role involves creating an inquiry‑based learning environment that develops students' literacy, critical thinking and global awareness.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging English and TOK lessons that foster critical thinking, communication and analytical skills.
• Inspire a love of literature and knowledge exploration through innovative, student‑centred teaching methods.
• Maintain an inclusive classroom that encourages curiosity, reflection and respectful discussion.
• Differentiate instruction for diverse learners, including EAL, gifted, and those needing additional support.
• Integrate technology and creative approaches to boost engagement.
• Assess, record and communicate student progress, using data to inform personalised support.
• Collaborate with IB colleagues to design a concept‑driven curriculum aligned with IB philosophy.
• Support students in research, writing and critical thinking across the IB curriculum.
• Contribute to co‑curricular activities, enrichment programmes and community initiatives.
• Build positive partnerships with parents and the wider school community.
• Engage in continuous professional learning and reflective practice.

Required profile

• Recognised teaching qualification at degree level (B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE or equivalent) specialising in English.
• Minimum three years of successful secondary English teaching experience, preferably in an IB World School.
• Experience teaching IB MYP and/or DP English; willingness to teach TOK (previous TOK experience desirable but not essential).
• Strong understanding of inquiry‑based learning and the IB philosophy.
