Equipment Maintenance Mechanic

About the role

The Equipment Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining a wide range of railway and civil‑construction equipment, including tampers, ballast regulators, sand removal machines, welding units and both light and heavy road vehicles. Work is performed on‑site and in the workshop, following manufacturers’ manuals and safety procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Prioritise safety for self, team and customers at all times.
• Communicate plant faults promptly to the line manager.
• Plan and execute preventive maintenance and breakdown repairs on all assigned equipment.
• Work under the direction of the Equipment Foreman, both on site and in the depot.
• Minimise equipment downtime and provide feedback on recurring faults.
• Provide after‑hours support for breakdown response when required.

Required profile

• Formal mechanical or electrical technical qualification.
• Relevant industry experience; experience with on‑track plant is a plus.
• Full driving licence for cars and heavy goods vehicles.
• Advanced written and verbal English proficiency.

Required skills

• Diesel engine diagnostic procedures.
• 12 V/24 V electrical circuit diagnostics.
• Hydraulic and pneumatic system troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of PLC boards and ability to read electrical drawings.
• Valid car and HGV driving licences.
