About the role

The Head of History will lead the History department at GEMS Wellington Academy, Al Khail, delivering high‑quality GCSE, A‑Level and Key Stage 5 Government & Politics instruction. This senior position offers the chance to shape curriculum, mentor staff and contribute to the school’s international reputation.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the planning, delivery and assessment of History, GCSE, A‑Level and Key Stage 5 programmes.
• Develop and implement innovative teaching and learning strategies across the department.
• Manage departmental resources, timetabling and budgeting.
• Lead professional development and coaching for History teachers.
• Collaborate with senior leadership on school‑wide initiatives and extracurricular activities.

Required profile

• Qualified teacher with a recognized teaching certification and strong subject knowledge.
• Experience teaching GCSE and A‑Level (or equivalent) and ability to teach Government & Politics at Key Stage 5.
• Proven record of outstanding teaching and learning outcomes.
• Extensive familiarity with the National Curriculum for England.
• B.Ed. or relevant Bachelor’s degree plus PGCE/PGDE or equivalent.
