L1 Network Engineer / System Engineer

About the role

The L1 Network Engineer / System Engineer will provide on‑site first‑line support for LAN/WLAN infrastructure, ensuring continuous network availability for critical business operations. The role combines smart‑hands assistance, physical maintenance, and rapid incident response in a multi‑site environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver L1 on‑site network support for incidents and service requests.
• Perform daily inspections of MDF/IDF rooms, cabling, and device health.
• Execute smart‑hands tasks such as cable replacement, port swaps, and device reseating.
• Troubleshoot basic network issues including link failures, Wi‑Fi problems, and IP‑phone faults.
• Assist with switch, AP, and endpoint replacements under L2/L3 guidance.
• Support structured cabling activities: patching, labeling, and MAC address management.
• Participate in NAC operations, handling endpoint access and basic authentication issues.
• Maintain accurate port maps, inventory records, and CMDB updates.
• Coordinate change windows, deployments, site expansions, and vendor interactions.
• Manage spares inventory and report shortages.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of hands‑on network support experience, preferably in enterprise or multi‑site environments.
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Networking, or a related field.
• CCNA or Aruba certification is a plus.
• Willingness to work on‑site, including shifts, weekends, and on‑call rotations.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation abilities.
• Ability to work in physically demanding environments (cabling, IDF/MDF rooms).

Required skills

• Fundamental networking concepts (TCP/IP, LAN/WLAN).
• Cisco and Aruba switching & wireless (L1 support level).
• Structured cabling basics for copper and fiber.
• Network Access Control basics (Cisco ISE, Aruba ClearPass).
• Basic IP telephony troubleshooting.
• Cable testing and fiber inspection tools.
• ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow or Remedy.
• Basic firewall awareness.
• Documentation and inventory management.
