Locum Registered Nurse – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

About the role

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at KCH requires a locum Registered Nurse to deliver critical care to premature and sick newborns. The role involves round‑the‑clock clinical duties, supporting families, and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, evidence‑based treatment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 24/7 care to newborns, including vital sign monitoring, feeding, hygiene, kangaroo care, and medication administration.
• Insert and manage intravenous lines, arterial lines, central umbilical lines, and long lines using aseptic technique.
• Perform procedures such as nasogastric/orogastric tube placement, gastric washes, colostomy care, and heel‑prick blood sampling.
• Assist physicians with central line insertion, intubation, lumbar puncture, and other medical interventions.
• Operate specialized equipment including ventilators, nitric‑oxide machines, cerebral function monitors, and therapeutic cooling devices.
• Develop nursing care plans, evaluate treatment effectiveness, and educate parents on home care and feeding.

Required profile

• UAE DHA nursing license.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing and registration as a RN from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand or Australia.
• Minimum two years of hospital or similar clinical experience.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification and ongoing CPD.
• Strong computer literacy and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
