Medical Transcriptionist

About the role

The Medical Transcriptionist is responsible for converting dictated clinical information into accurate, clear, and compliant electronic documents. This role supports patient care documentation across a wide range of medical reports within Al Rahba Hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Transcribe medical reports such as discharge summaries, operative reports, cardiology, EEG, pathology, and progress notes with accuracy and timeliness.
• Apply extensive knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy, and disease processes to ensure correct expansion of abbreviations and slang.
• Clarify unclear dictation by consulting electronic medical records, laboratory and radiology results, and liaising with physicians or nursing staff.
• Submit transcribed reports for physician review, signature, and insertion into the patient record.
• Maintain accuracy of headers, footers, patient identifiers, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
• Track deficiencies, update status changes, and eliminate duplicate records in the dictation system.
• Produce daily, weekly, and monthly productivity reports and maintain accurate work logs.

Required profile

• 2–4 years of medical transcription experience in an acute‑care hospital or comparable setting.
• Experience working in a large healthcare facility is desired.

Required skills

• Proficiency with word processing and transcription software/equipment.
• Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) systems for verification and documentation.
