Pain Medicine Specialist

About the role

The Pain Medicine Specialist works alongside the Consultant Physician to provide high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care within the pain management division. The role includes diagnosing and treating complex pain conditions, developing individualized care plans, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and supervising junior medical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, obtain histories, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and design personalized treatment plans.
• Prescribe and administer appropriate medications, therapies, and perform necessary procedures or surgeries related to pain medicine.
• Consult and coordinate with other specialists, departments, and support services to ensure integrated patient care.
• Document all clinical information accurately and timely in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
• Participate in quality-improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and research activities to enhance patient safety and care standards.
• Provide instruction, guidance, and supervision to residents, junior doctors, and medical students.
• Communicate clinical information compassionately to patients and families, obtaining informed consent as required.
• Adhere to hospital policies, DOH regulations, occupational health, safety, and infection-control protocols.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent degree from a recognized medical school.
• Completed residency or fellowship in pain medicine or a related specialty.
• Minimum 2–3 years of clinical experience post-specialisation.
• Valid DOH Abu Dhabi licence or eligibility letter; current licence from last practising country and certificate of good standing.
• Successful completion of the DOH licensing examination.
• Fluency in English and Arabic; additional languages are an asset.

Required skills
