Registered Nurse - OPD (Ophthalmology)

About the role

The Registered Nurse will work in the Outpatient Department (OPD) of the ophthalmology unit, delivering safe and patient‑centred care. The role involves assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating eye‑related health needs while collaborating with physicians and allied health professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide and coordinate patient care, including education, emotional support and preparation for examinations and procedures.
• Perform systematic patient assessments, record vital signs, and monitor for abnormalities.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products and wound‑care management, and observe for side effects.
• Assist physicians with ophthalmic procedures such as YAG laser, fluorescein angiography, minor surgeries (chalazion, sebaceous cyst excision) and laser therapies (IPL, PRP).
• Perform emergency procedures and maintain Basic Life Support certification.
• Document patient records, ensure equipment functionality and adhere to evidence‑based practices.

Required profile

• Valid licence to practice as a registered nurse in the UAE and a current Basic Life Support provider card.
• Willingness to work across departments, be on call when needed and manage professional re‑licensure.
• Ability to think critically, make quick decisions and maintain excellent observation skills.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) and ECG performance.
• Proficiency with ophthalmic equipment: YAG laser, fluorescein angiography, IPL, PRP laser.
• Experience in minor ophthalmic surgeries and procedures (chalazion excision, punctum plug insertion, collagen cross‑linkage).
• IV therapy, medication administration and wound‑care management.
• Patient assessment, vital‑sign monitoring and emergency response.
