Rheumatology Consultant

About the role

The Rheumatology Consultant provides senior, evidence‑based medical care for patients with rheumatologic conditions in a leading Abu Dhabi hospital. The role combines clinical excellence, leadership of junior staff, and active participation in quality improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based rheumatology care for inpatient and outpatient services.
• Conduct patient examinations, obtain histories, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe therapies, and develop comprehensive treatment plans.
• Oversee and train junior medical staff, including specialists, GPs, and residents.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and attend multi‑disciplinary meetings.
• Participate in rotational on‑call coverage, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Document clinical information accurately and comply with hospital, DOH, and infection‑control policies.
• Engage in clinical audits, peer review, and risk‑management activities to improve patient outcomes.
• Communicate clearly with patients and families, ensuring informed consent for procedures.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent degree from a recognized medical school.
• Successful completion of a structured specialty training program (Board Certification, Royal College Fellowship, or equivalent).
• Postgraduate qualification such as MD, MS, or DNB is preferred.
• 3–7 years of post‑specialty clinical experience in a multidisciplinary setting.
• Valid DOH (Department of Health) licensing for the UAE.
