Satellite Engineer

About the role

The Satellite Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, functionality and availability of satellite systems and related facilities across GDMO. Working closely with Broadcast and Network Engineers, the role supports the organisation’s strategic vision by ensuring reliable satellite uplink/downlink, IPTV, mobile news gathering and fiber/MPLS connectivity.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and operate satellite uplink (fixed and movable) and downlink facilities.
• Operate and manage satellite‑to‑IP gateways to deliver feeds to IPTV platforms.
• Support and maintain IPTV set‑top boxes for office use.
• Provide and sustain mobile news‑gathering solutions.
• Maintain all fiber and MPLS links, ensuring continuous service.
• Support CAR/Data Center infrastructure, including CCUs, UPS and environmental monitoring.
• Respond to unplanned operational issues and perform upgrades/modifications to satellite technology.
• Provide first‑level support for satellite‑related queries and generate KPI documentation for reporting.

Required profile

• Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration across engineering and IT departments.
• Adherence to business policies, procedures and budgetary processes.
• Ability to work with internal stakeholders, procurement, finance and external vendors.
