Senior Backend Engineer – AI Platform Architecture

About the role

AI71 is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design and implement the core architecture that powers EDGE Group’s AI transformation. You will be the technical anchor for the "Workstream 2: Build" program, creating secure, high‑performance microservices that enable large language models to interact with critical enterprise systems.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and build the orchestration layer that coordinates specialized AI agents, handling state, routing, and error management.
• Design and implement API gateways and data‑access layers for secure connectivity to SAP S/4HANA, Ariba, and central data‑lakehouse platforms.
• Develop backend logic for vector databases (e.g., Weaviate) and retrieval‑augmented generation models to support knowledge‑mining chatbots.
• Create robust connectors for external data feeds such as S&P Global and Orbis, managing rate limiting, caching, and normalization.
• Implement defense‑grade security controls, including authentication, RBAC, and PII/ITAR redaction, for on‑premise or air‑gapped deployments.
• Ensure reliability through comprehensive logging, tracing, monitoring, and observability aligned with EDGE security policies.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience designing and delivering secure, containerized microservices at scale.
• Deep understanding of enterprise integration patterns, especially with SAP S/4HANA and data‑lakehouse environments.
• Experience building on‑premise, GPU‑accelerated systems for defense or highly regulated domains.
• Strong background in implementing robust security and compliance mechanisms (RBAC, ITAR, PII handling).
