Sonographer – Diagnostic Ultrasound Specialist

About the role

The Sonographer will independently perform a full range of ultrasound imaging procedures, analyse the images for diagnostic purposes and provide preliminary reports. Working under the supervision of senior sonographers or radiologists, the role ensures high‑quality diagnostic images in a fast‑paced hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform all sonography procedures (Doppler, obstetric/gynecologic, abdominal) following departmental protocols.
• Evaluate image quality, acquire additional views when needed, and forward images to radiologists for final reporting.
• Maintain and calibrate ultrasound equipment, report faults, and ensure a clean, well‑stocked work area.
• Enter patient and imaging data into the Hospital Information System and upload images to the PACS.
• Participate in quality improvement, safety, infection‑control programs and continuous education activities.

Required profile

• BSc in Radiography or accredited diploma; ARDMS certification and current national licence.
• Minimum 2 years post‑graduate ultrasound experience in an acute‑care hospital, covering Doppler, obstetric/gynecologic and abdominal studies.
• Fluent spoken and written English; Arabic is advantageous.
• Self‑motivated, able to work under pressure and manage time effectively.

Required skills

• Operation of advanced ultrasound equipment and Doppler scanning.
• Obstetric, gynecologic and abdominal sonography techniques.
• Proficiency with PACS and Hospital Information System data entry.
• Use of specialised ultrasound software for image acquisition and analysis.
• Basic IT competencies for equipment maintenance and reporting.
