Specialist Physician – General Medicine

About the role

The Specialist Physician – General Medicine works alongside Consultant Physicians to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based, patient‑centred care. The role includes supervising junior medical staff and contributing to clinical excellence within the division.

Key responsibilities

• Support and adhere to all departmental and divisional policies, procedures and initiatives.
• Participate in performance management processes, including peer review and productivity/utilisation reviews.
• Assist Consultant staff to ensure continuous medical coverage within the division.
• Lead ward rounds, reassess in‑patients and out‑patients regularly, and document clinical information promptly.
• Supervise junior medical staff, sharing responsibility for the care they provide.
• Coordinate with other specialties and support services for comprehensive patient management.
• Provide out‑of‑hours on‑call coverage on a rotational basis.
• Promote quality improvement, audit activities and clinical research.

Required profile

• Board certification in General Medicine (Tier 1, Tier 2 or Tier 3 qualification).
• Current national medical licence or equivalent.
• Experience: No additional experience required for Tier 1; minimum 2 years post‑qualification for Tier 2; minimum 3 years post‑qualification for Tier 3.
