Assistant Resident Engineer - Electrical (Overhead Lines)

About the role

WSP is hiring an Assistant Resident Engineer - Electrical for overhead transmission line (OHL) projects in Abu Dhabi. The role supports the Resident Engineer in managing all aspects of OHL projects from initiation to closeout, ensuring adherence to project objectives, schedules and budgets, while collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Resident Engineer in supervising day-to-day electrical construction activities and inspecting tower erection, conductor and earthwire/OPGW stringing, insulators, earthing and associated works.
• Ensure works follow approved drawings, specifications, method statements, ITPs and project requirements.
• Review electrical drawings, shop drawings, material submittals, method statements and technical documentation.
• Conduct site inspections, monitor quality, progress and HSE compliance, and witness electrical inspections, testing and commissioning.
• Coordinate with contractors, suppliers and multidisciplinary teams, and support permits, NOCs, shutdowns, access requirements and work permits.
• Monitor contractor progress against the programme and report delays, risks or technical issues to the Resident Engineer.
• Maintain project documentation (RFIs, NCRs, inspection requests, test reports, material records) and attend progress and coordination meetings.
• Ensure compliance with UAE/TAQA HSE, quality and electrical safety requirements, and review as-built drawings, T&C records and close-out documentation.
• Provide technical support to the Resident Engineer/Project Manager and promote a culture of safety, quality and professionalism.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field; master's degree preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Minimum of 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering, focused on overhead transmission line projects.
• Extensive knowledge of transmission line design, construction and maintenance, including tower configurations.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible hours.
• Excellent project management, communication, leadership and stakeholder relationship skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in engineering software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE and AutoCAD.
• Expertise in reinforced concrete foundations, geotechnical investigation, tower spotting and stringing logistics.
