Associate Director - Underground Structures

About the role

The Underground Structures Expert will lead the design, construction, and management of underground infrastructure for the UAE high‑speed rail network, ensuring safety, compliance, and environmental stewardship.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and development of tunnels, underground stations, and shafts, including TBM drives and ventilation systems.
• Oversee construction activities, verify contractor submissions, and ensure adherence to design specifications and timelines.
• Implement fire and life‑safety strategies, manage emergency egress, and address urban space constraints.
• Coordinate with government, military, and private stakeholders to resolve land and alignment challenges.
• Provide technical leadership on construction methodologies such as cut‑and‑cover and mined tunneling.

Required profile

• Extensive experience with tunneling methods (TBM, cut‑and‑cover) and underground station design.
• Proven track record on large‑scale high‑speed rail projects, including knowledge of electrification, signaling, and rolling stock integration.
• Strong project‑management skills, including budget control, resource allocation, and risk mitigation.
• Familiarity with UAE regulatory frameworks and challenges such as extreme heat and sand infiltration.
