Careers and University Counsellor - American Curriculum Schools

About the role

Aldar Education is looking for a Careers and University Guidance Counsellor to lead its careers advisory service across its three American curriculum schools (Yas American Academy, Yasmina American School and Virginia American School). The role starts as soon as possible and involves guiding students through university choices, career pathways and post-secondary transitions.

Key responsibilities

• Support students in their personal, academic and career development, tracking progress and offering tailored support.
• Help students prepare for university applications and plan for life beyond school.
• Implement the school's CU guidance policy and program, covering career aspirations from Cycle 2, subject choices and extracurriculars.
• Help students identify local and international post-secondary options and ensure at least one application is submitted.
• Engage parents throughout the guidance process, emphasizing student agency.
• Provide administrative support for post-secondary applications, including recommendation letters and review of personal statements.
• Build relationships with local post-secondary institutions for admissions visits and internships.
• Take part in school duties, ECAs and ongoing CPD.
• Give tailored guidance to gifted and talented students and those with additional learning needs, including scholarships and mentorship.
• Organize CU guidance events and maintain a calendar of key dates.
• Foster relationships with alumni and track their pathways.

Required profile

• At least a QFE 7 (Bachelor's degree) and CPD compliance, or a Bachelor's degree plus experience as a former or current teacher/educator.
• Minimum of 2 years in school counselling or other counselling experience.
• Experience of the American curriculum and the global university network.
• Bilingualism (Arabic/English) preferred; a licence to carry out student counselling is preferred.
