About the role

The Charge Nurse for the Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) leads daily operations, ensuring smooth patient flow and high‑quality care. Reporting to the Nurse Manager, the role combines clinical expertise with administrative oversight to support a multidisciplinary team in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate schedules, assignments, and patient care activities to maintain efficient unit operations.
• Monitor staff performance, provide coaching, and ensure adherence to scope of practice and skill mix.
• Oversee medication administration and collaborate with pharmacy to meet unit medication needs.
• Manage human resources, consumables, and equipment to optimize utilization.
• Facilitate communication among patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
• Conduct clinical handovers, attend patient rounds, and update providers on condition changes.
• Respond to emergencies according to organizational policies.
• Coordinate referrals and discharge planning to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Required profile

• Demonstrated competence in patient assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Strong ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and support a diverse workforce.
• Experience supervising nursing staff and managing unit resources.
• Commitment to ethical conduct, patient safety, and the mission, vision, and values of SSMC.
