Consultant – Anesthesia and Pain Management

About the role

Black Pearl is recruiting on behalf of a well-established healthcare provider in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi for a Consultant in Anesthesia and Pain Management. The consultant leads specialist pain assessment and interventional pain-management services for patients with acute, chronic and complex pain conditions, combining clinical judgment, compassionate communication and teamwork with a commitment to quality and patient safety.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive pain assessments and develop evidence-based pharmacological, interventional and multidisciplinary treatment plans.
• Perform fluoroscopy- and ultrasound-guided pain procedures within approved privileges.
• Manage neuropathic, musculoskeletal, cancer-related and post-surgical pain in collaboration with relevant specialties.
• Review outcomes, medication safety, opioid stewardship and procedural complications.
• Contribute to pain-service pathways, education, governance, audit and anesthesia/on-call duties.
• Supervise junior medical staff, support multidisciplinary decision-making and communicate effectively with patients and families.
• Take part in clinical governance, incident review, quality improvement, credentialing, continuing professional development and departmental education.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with infection prevention, medication safety, privacy and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Medical degree, recognized Anesthesiology specialty qualification and recognized Pain Medicine fellowship/board sufficient for the DOH Pain Management title, recognised under UAE Professional Qualification Requirements.
• Internship completed and active, unrestricted registration in the current or most recent country of practice.
• Consultant-level experience with recent, substantial interventional pain practice; for Tier 1 vacancies the exact Tier 1 award is mandatory.
• Current or eligible to obtain a Department of Health – Abu Dhabi Consultant licence for the applicable base specialty, with recent clinical activity and no unresolved licensing or standing concerns.
• A current transferable DOH licence or formal DOH eligibility in Pain Management is strongly required.

• Excellent diagnostic, procedural and clinical decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and counseling skills with patients, families and multicultural teams.
• Ability to supervise, teach and support physicians and other healthcare professionals.
• Commitment to evidence-based practice, ethical conduct and clinical governance.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification.
• Detailed interventional pain procedure logbook and image-guided intervention training.
