Consultant Counsellor Psychosocial Support – Americas Region

About the role

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) seeks a Consultant Counsellor to provide psychosocial support to staff across the Americas region. The role is part of the Psychological Support Programme, delivering confidential counselling, briefings, debriefings and training.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individual counselling and critical incident debriefings on request, maintaining strict confidentiality.
• Deliver briefings, debriefings and workshops on mental health topics, including stress management.
• Develop and maintain a confidential file management system in coordination with the Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing unit.
• Contribute to reporting, statistics and annual reporting while ensuring client confidentiality.
• Participate in regular PSP virtual meetings and respond to staff requests within one day.

Required profile

• Licensed psychologist or psychotherapist with university degree and professional qualifications.
• Experience in psychological management of trauma, critical incidents and counselling in a non‑native language.
• Fluent in spoken and written English and Spanish; additional languages a plus.
• Availability for short field visits and out‑of‑hours support as needed.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Capability to present to larger groups and work under stressful conditions.
