Consultant Physician – Fetal Maternal Medicine

About the role

The Consultant Physician in Fetal Maternal Medicine leads the delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based care for pregnant patients with complex conditions. The role combines clinical excellence with leadership, overseeing junior staff and ensuring adherence to hospital policies.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose, manage and treat patients according to best‑practice standards in fetal maternal medicine.
• Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, reviewing their clinical decisions and ensuring safe patient care.
• Participate in peer‑review, productivity and utilization review processes and support performance‑management initiatives.
• Assist the Division Chief with scheduling, recruitment and ensuring adequate medical coverage.
• Lead ward rounds, reassess in‑patients and out‑patients, and document clinical information promptly.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary meetings, liaise with other specialties and arrange informed consent for procedures.
• Provide out‑of‑hours on‑call coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Communicate clinical information to patients, families and the care team in a timely manner.

Required profile

• Demonstrated clinical excellence within the specialty of fetal maternal medicine.
• Ability to provide leadership and training for junior medical staff.
• Commitment to follow hospital, departmental and divisional policies and procedures.
