Consultant Physician – Otolaryngology

About the role

The Consultant Physician in Otolaryngology leads the delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based care for patients within the department. This senior medical professional is expected to model clinical excellence, supervise junior staff, and contribute to the overall performance of the division.

Key responsibilities

• Support and implement hospital, departmental and divisional policies and initiatives.
• Participate in performance management, peer review, and productivity/utilisation reviews.
• Assist the Division Chief with scheduling, recruitment and ensuring continuous medical coverage.
• Oversee clinical activities of junior medical staff and assume responsibility for their patient care.
• Diagnose, treat and document patient cases according to best‑practice standards.
• Lead ward rounds, review investigations, modify treatment plans and ensure appropriate resource utilisation.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary meetings, obtain informed consent and manage referrals from emergency, primary care and other specialties.
• Provide out‑of‑hours on‑call coverage on a rotational basis.
