Consultant Physician – Pediatric Surgery

About the role

The Consultant Physician – Pediatric Surgery leads the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based surgical care for children at SSMC. The role combines clinical excellence with leadership, overseeing junior medical staff and ensuring optimal patient outcomes across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose, manage and treat pediatric surgical patients according to best-practice standards.
• Supervise and mentor junior doctors, overseeing their clinical activities and ensuring safe patient care.
• Lead ward rounds, review investigations, adjust treatment plans and document care promptly.
• Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings and coordinate with other specialties and support services.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies on admissions, consultations, surgical procedures, discharge and follow-up.
• Assist the Division Chief with staffing, recruitment, scheduling and on-call coverage.
• Contribute to performance management processes, including peer review and productivity assessments.

Required profile

• Board-certified pediatric surgeon with extensive clinical experience.
• Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership and training to junior staff.
• Strong commitment to evidence-based practice and patient safety.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
