Deputy Editor

About the role

We are looking for a Deputy Editor to take ownership of day‑to‑day editorial operations for our social‑first lifestyle brand, ahlan. You will lead the editorial and social teams, ensure all content reflects the brand’s voice, and step in for the Editor when needed.

Key responsibilities

• Deputise for the Editor, making editorial decisions and managing output in their absence.
• Oversee the editorial calendar across all platforms, balancing news, features and social‑first storytelling.
• Edit and sub‑edit copy across verticals, enforcing the brand’s style guide.
• Manage social output – video content, captions, scripts – ensuring on‑brand, on‑schedule delivery.
• Identify emerging trends and cultural moments, briefing the team on stories to chase.
• Review performance data and social analytics weekly to refine content strategy.
• Collaborate with commercial and marketing teams on campaigns while protecting editorial integrity.
• Liaise with PRs and brands to source information, invites and imagery.
• Step in on breaking news, manage last‑minute changes and keep the team moving under pressure.
• Represent the brand at events, launches and industry gatherings.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in media or journalism, including managing writers or a small team.
• Exceptional editing and sub‑editing skills with a strong command of the brand’s voice.
• Deep understanding of social media platforms, formats and analytics.
• Knowledge of the region’s lifestyle scene.
• Proven ability to lead and give direction under deadline pressure.
• Comfortable moving between long‑form editorial judgement and fast, social‑first decision‑making.
• Excellent written English (British spelling) with a keen eye for detail.
• Organised, calm under pressure and able to run multiple workstreams simultaneously.
