Director of Risks and Compliance

About the role

The Director of Risks and Compliance will lead the company’s risk, control, fraud, AML and regulatory compliance functions. Reporting directly to the Board and CEO, this senior position shapes risk strategy, ensures adherence to UAE and international regulations, and drives a robust governance framework.

Key responsibilities

• Manage risk, control and fraud policies, and ensure regulatory communication and compliance.
• Establish and supervise the Risk & Compliance functions, implementing BRCC‑approved policies.
• Develop Enterprise Risk Management policies and oversee risk‑related initiatives.
• Define risk strategy, appetite, limits and tolerances; review material risks for existing and new products.
• Liaise with the Board, BRCC and Central Bank of UAE on risk policies, reports and corrective actions.
• Oversee AML program, assess money‑laundering risk and report suspicious activity to the UAE FIU.
• Monitor internal controls, conduct thematic reviews and ensure compliance with consumer protection standards.

Required profile

• Degree in Risk, Audit, Law or related field.
• Minimum 12 years of experience in risk and compliance, preferably in fintech or banking.
• Proven experience managing regulators and reporting to the Central Bank of UAE.
• Board‑level reporting experience and ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of UAE regulations, GDPR and international financial best practices.

Required skills

• Anti‑Money‑Laundering (AML) expertise.
• Risk Management and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) frameworks.
• Regulatory compliance (UAE, GDPR, customer protection).
• Knowledge of payments, e‑money, wallet products and merchant processing.
