Freight Manager

About the role

The Freight Manager will oversee chartering activities, freight calculations and vessel coordination for bulk, tanker and coaster shipments. The role requires close interaction with shipowners, brokers, agents and clients to ensure efficient cargo movements.

Key responsibilities

• Calculate voyage costs, negotiate charter parties and fix ocean freight for voyage charters.
• Maintain active networks with shipowners, operators, brokers, agents and clients.
• Review weekly freight markets and prepare internal commercial reports.
• Nominate vessels to shippers/consignees and coordinate loading/unloading processes.
• Monitor cargo readiness, vessel queues and forecast departures/arrivals.
• Control cargo documents, arrange freight payments and manage lay‑time negotiations (demurrage and dispatch).
• Prepare loading/unloading plans, review statements of facts and handle letters of indemnity.
• Co‑operate with insurance and legal departments on claims and protests.

Required profile

• Higher education in transport, logistics, navigation or related maritime studies.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in maritime transportation/logistics, including at least 3 years in chartering.
• Fluent English (professional terminology required); Russian is an advantage.
• Basic knowledge of English law principles for claim negotiations.
• High responsibility, attention to detail, stress resistance and strong communication skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of BIMCO charter‑party forms and general terms.
• Proficiency with MS Office products.
• Experience using lay‑time calculation tools such as BV Laytime, Enqlare.
• Familiarity with distance calculation programs like Netpas.
