About the role

The College of Engineering at the American University of Sharjah is seeking a visionary leader to serve as Head of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, commencing Fall 2027. The role oversees academic, research, and service activities, ensuring the department’s growth and alignment with university strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and develop short‑ and long‑term plans for teaching, research, and community engagement.
• Oversee curriculum design, implementation of innovative pedagogies, and continuous improvement of academic programs.
• Promote high‑impact, multidisciplinary research, manage research funds and facilities, and enhance the department’s scholarly reputation.
• Mentor, support, and evaluate faculty, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.
• Represent the department within the university and to external stakeholders, building partnerships and enhancing visibility.

Required profile

• Earned doctorate in chemical engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Proven academic leadership experience, preferably at the senior faculty or department level.
• Outstanding research record demonstrated by high‑quality publications and external funding.
• Excellence in teaching with a record of curriculum development and student mentorship.
• Active participation in professional service at the college, university, or disciplinary level.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, transparent leadership style.
