Head of Department - Mechanical Rotating, Static and Packaged Equipment

About the role

Wood is looking for an experienced Head of Department to lead its Mechanical Rotating, Static and Packaged Equipment discipline for onshore and offshore projects, serving a high-profile client. The role drives engineering excellence, ensures safe and high-quality delivery and provides functional leadership to Lead Discipline Engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Drive engineering delivery, performance and HSSEA culture; ensure engineering integrity, compliance and process safety, and support technical assurance such as audits and incident investigations
• Manage discipline resources against workload and budget, support workforce planning, and collaborate with other discipline managers on engineering execution plans
• Support business development, review proposal manhours, and contribute discipline input to proposals and workshare strategies
• Set the vision for the Discipline Engineering Group, provide line management including performance management and career development, and run recruitment, development and succession planning
• Maintain competence assurance frameworks, identify skill gaps and organise training, and build an inclusive, high-performing team
• Develop and maintain discipline processes, procedures, manuals and software tools, and guide compliance with codes, standards and regulations
• Identify innovation and margin-improvement opportunities and drive continuous improvement through change management

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree as a minimum in a relevant engineering discipline
• Minimum 25 years of experience in onshore and offshore mega projects (capex over 2 billion USD)
• Minimum 5 years of experience as Head of Discipline
• Experience in ASSESS, Pre-FEED, FEED and detailed design stages
• Extensive experience delivering mechanical discipline projects and with Middle East clients

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of ASME, API, TEMA, ISO and ICS codes and Middle East client specifications
• Experience with ADNOC, Qatar Energy, KNPC, KOC, BGC and BP
