About the role

The Head of Department – Secondary English will lead the English faculty at Wesgreen International School, ensuring high academic standards and fostering a supportive learning environment for secondary students.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop the Secondary English department.
• Oversee curriculum planning, progress tracking and assessment for GCSE and A‑Level programmes.
• Monitor student behaviour and implement effective pastoral strategies.
• Engage with parents, staff and senior leadership to promote the school’s vision.
• Coordinate extracurricular activities and promote a creative, inclusive culture.

Required profile

• B.Ed or equivalent degree with PGCE/PGDE or comparable qualification.
• Significant experience teaching GCSE and A‑Level English in a British‑curriculum, preferably international.
• Proven record of outstanding teaching and learning outcomes.
• Willingness to contribute to extracurricular programmes.
• Creative, enthusiastic approach both inside and outside the classroom.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interaction with students and parents.

Required skills

• Exceptional subject knowledge of English literature and language.
• Experience with British secondary curriculum (GCSE/A‑Level).
• Proficient use of educational IT tools.
