Head of Year - Primary

About the role

Aldar Education is recruiting a Head of Year for the Primary department at Yasmina British Academy in Abu Dhabi for the academic year 2026/27. The post holder leads the department, raises standards and supports all pupils' progress, and works within the school's core values and the ethos of the region.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement departmental policies and practices that reflect the school's vision and commitment to high standards.
• Set, monitor and evaluate short, medium and long-term departmental development plans.
• Use data to identify underachieving students and put in place support plans; analyse school data to inform policies and the school's Self-Evaluation Form.
• Ensure schemes of work are in place, regularly reviewed and cover SEN, G&T and EAL provision, with continuity and progression for all students.
• Set expectations for staff on standards, quality of teaching and behaviour, and evaluate teaching and learning to drive improvement.
• Contribute to the school's CAS Programme and after-school Booster/Revision sessions for I/GCSE and IB DP courses.
• Performance manage the team, deploy staff and resources efficiently, and control the department's resource and capital budgets.
• Maintain a stimulating learning environment in line with the Learning Environment Policy.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in the related subject with a PGCE or other teacher qualification.
• At least 6 years of teaching experience.
• Experience of the UK curriculum and a secure knowledge of teaching it.
• Proven track record of raising standards and closing learning gaps, and leadership experience at various levels.
• Commitment to an extensive enrichment programme and to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
