Hydraulic Engineer – Fire Trucks

About the role

NAFFCO is seeking a Hydraulic Engineer to design reliable hydraulic systems for fire trucks, covering everything from schematics and component selection to hands‑on support during installation, testing, and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop hydraulic systems for fire trucks, including firefighting equipment and vehicle functions.
• Prepare hydraulic schematics, layouts, Bills of Materials and technical specifications.
• Select and size pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, reservoirs, filters, hoses, pipes and fittings.
• Perform hydraulic calculations for flow, pressure, power and system capacity.
• Coordinate interfaces with chassis, PTO, firefighting pumps, water/foam systems and electrical controls.
• Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, testing, troubleshooting and commissioning.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Hydraulic or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent technical qualification with experience).
• 3–5 years of experience in hydraulic system design or technical support, preferably for fire trucks or special‑purpose vehicles.
• Strong analytical, communication and organisational abilities.

Required skills

• Hydraulic circuit design and component selection.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD (or similar) and familiarity with 3D CAD tools.
• Knowledge of hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders, pipework, hoses and fluid‑power components.
• Experience with hydraulic testing, system commissioning and fault diagnosis.
