About the role
The Inpatient Medical Coder reviews inpatient medical records and assigns accurate diagnostic and procedural codes to support reimbursement, quality reporting, and compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Review physician documentation, diagnostic reports, and treatment records to assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes.
- Validate Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRGs) and ensure coding compliance with guidelines and payer requirements.
- Query physicians for clarification and collaborate with CDI specialists, case managers, and revenue cycle teams.
- Conduct coding audits, monitor denials, and participate in quality assurance activities.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Medical Records, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Pharmacy, or related field.
- Professional coding certification such as CPC, ICD-10-CM, CPT, or HCPCS.
Required skills
- Proficiency with ICD-10-CM coding.
- Proficiency with ICD-10-PCS coding.
- Knowledge of DRG methodologies.
- Experience using electronic health record (EHR) and coding systems.
