Inpatient Pharmacist (IP Pharmacist)

About the role

Royal Health Al Salam Specialized Hospital in Abu Dhabi is hiring an Inpatient Pharmacist (IP Pharmacist) for its Pharmacy / Clinical Pharmacy department. The pharmacist provides pharmaceutical care to hospitalized patients by reviewing medication orders, verifying prescriptions, dispensing medicines, monitoring drug therapy and working with physicians and nurses to ensure patient safety and good clinical outcomes. The post reports to the Pharmacy Manager / Chief Pharmacist.

Key responsibilities

• Review and verify inpatient medication orders for accuracy, dosage, frequency, route and duration.
• Check for drug interactions, contraindications, allergies, therapeutic duplication and medication-related problems.
• Prepare, dispense, label and distribute medications to inpatient wards, ICU, ER and other departments.
• Perform medication reconciliation on admission, transfer and discharge.
• Maintain proper storage conditions, temperature logs and expiry dates; check emergency supplies, crash carts and antidotes.
• Manage controlled drugs, narcotics, psychotropic and other restricted medicines, and handle high-alert and LASA medicines safely.
• Provide drug information and medication counselling to doctors, nurses, patients and caregivers.
• Report medication errors and adverse drug reactions, and take part in pharmacy audits, quality improvement and medication safety programmes.
• Maintain accurate records and comply with hospital policy and Department of Health Abu Dhabi requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (BPharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD).
• Valid DoH Abu Dhabi pharmacist licence or applicable eligibility.
• Hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
• Knowledge of UAE pharmacy regulations and medication management standards.
• Ability to work rotational shifts, weekends and public holidays.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of pharmacology and therapeutics, and IV medications and dosage calculations.
• Prescription screening and medication verification.
• Knowledge of inpatient pharmacy operations and controlled drug management.
• Medication safety and error prevention.
• Good communication and teamwork skills, computer literacy and hospital information system knowledge.
