IP Medical Coder Team Lead

About the role

Royal Khalifa City Hospital Abu Dhabi is looking for an IP Medical Coder Team Lead to manage and audit the coding team. The role ensures coding follows regulatory guidelines, checks and compiles insurance claims before submission, and works closely with the Revenue Cycle Manager to set up coding procedures and meet KPIs.

Key responsibilities

• Audit IP and OP medical records regularly, share results with the team, implement performance improvement plans and submit a monthly audit report to the corporate audit team.
• Check and compile insurance claims using coded data before submitting them to payers and insurers.
• Train and mentor new and existing coding staff on coding expectations, quality and productivity goals, and provide leadership and guidance.
• Monitor tasks to improve billing practices and increase revenue, and assess staff levels to help meet defined KPIs.
• Report staffing deficiencies and disciplinary issues to the Revenue Cycle Manager with supporting documentation.
• Ensure compliance with OSH and infection control policies, attend training, mock drills and awareness programmes, and supervise staff on safety and PPE use.
• Organise induction, refresher and FMS/OSH training for new and transferred employees.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent; coding certification from AAPC, CPC or AHIMA preferred.
• Knowledge of DRG coding and EMR preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience using ICD and CPT coding, with a proven track record supervising a medical coding team.
• Strong supervisory, leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.
• Good communication, analytical and interpersonal skills, and strong ethics.
