Junior Sommelier

About the role

Anantara Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort in Abu Dhabi is hiring a Junior Sommelier. The role oversees the outlet's bar operations and the work of other bartenders so that guests receive a positive experience, and covers serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, wine and cocktails.

Key responsibilities

• Serve wine and beverages professionally, following proper service techniques, and recommend pairings based on guests' preferences and menu choices
• Support ordering and receiving of wine deliveries, and assist with inventory, stock rotation and cellar organisation
• Maintain knowledge of the wine list (regions, vintages, varietals, producers) and keep the wine cellar clean and well organised
• Take part in regular wine tastings and training sessions, and stay updated on industry trends and new producers
• Contribute to the development of cocktails, track the cocktail menu across outlets, and keep a database of standard drink recipes
• Manage POS (Micros) buttons and pricing, set and enforce quality and quantity standards, and run regular quality assurance audits
• Lead new beverage promotions and help control costs
• Perform opening and closing duties, oversee glassware cleaning and storage, and do weekly inventory
• Keep a preventive cleaning and maintenance programme for glassware and wine service equipment, and monitor operating supplies
