About the role

The Center for Smart Engineering Materials (CSEM) at New York University Abu Dhabi is recruiting a Kawader fellow to work as a research fellow with the CSEM and the Smart Materials Lab (Naumov research group). The fellowship focuses on thermal, mechanical and electrical characterization of materials, at the intersection of materials science, chemistry and engineering. It is part of the NYUAD Kawader program, a three-year, individually tailored research fellowship for outstanding graduates.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, characterize and test new smart materials
• Carry out experiments on assigned research projects, process the data and prepare results for articles and conferences
• Work on individualized research projects under the mentorship of the supervisor
• Submit biweekly research reports and take part in group seminars
• Train students, such as capstone students or interns, and other researchers on techniques in the research domain
• Collaborate with the Core Technology Platforms staff to receive training on analytical techniques

Required profile

• A strong background in thermal or mechanical characterization of the surface and bulk properties of solids, from solid-state physics or mechanical engineering
• Background in mechanical engineering, solid-state physics, chemistry or materials solid-state chemistry
• Experimental skills and/or modelling experience with characterization of thermal and mechanical properties
• A strong publication record in engineering or science gives priority

Applicants need to submit a statement of interest, transcripts of degrees and two letters of recommendation. UAE nationals are encouraged to apply.
