Lab Safety Coordinator

About the role

SGS is seeking a Lab Safety Coordinator to lead and maintain a robust safety culture across its laboratory facilities in Abu Dhabi. The role involves overseeing safety inspections, hazardous chemical management, and emergency preparedness to ensure compliance with local regulations and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct routine laboratory safety inspections and audits, including regulatory authority visits.
• Monitor and manage the hazardous chemical management system in line with legal and company requirements.
• Coordinate incident investigations, maintain records, and ensure emergency response readiness.
• Deliver safety training, inductions, and refresher programs for employees, students, contractors, and visitors.
• Ensure appropriate PPE selection, availability, and correct usage based on risk assessments.
• Organise safety awareness campaigns and promote a proactive laboratory safety culture.
• Facilitate OHS Committee meetings in collaboration with OHS Representatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Chemistry, Microbiology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in laboratory safety, HSE, or regulated laboratory environments.
• Knowledge of local regulations such as MOE guidelines, ADOSH codes, and Civil Defence codes.
• Familiarity with ISO standards, particularly ISO 45001.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office and safety reporting tools.
• Experience with MSDS/SDS management and chemical compatibility assessments.
• Understanding of ISO 45001 and related local regulatory requirements.
