Medical Coder

About the role

NMC Healthcare is hiring a full-time Medical Coder in Abu Dhabi. The coder ensures that patient documents are coded correctly in line with regulatory coding guidelines and regulations, and also trains and guides other coders and medical records technicians.

Key responsibilities

• Check and sequence the most accurate ICD-9, ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and DRG codes for diagnoses and procedures, and confirm that physicians' final diagnoses and operative procedures are valid and complete.
• Abstract information from health records to identify secondary complications and comorbidities, and evaluate records for consistency and adequacy so that the final diagnosis reflects the care given.
• Compute and assign the correct DRG codes for all inpatient cases and ensure E&M levels are assigned with the correct CPT codes.
• Ensure coding follows HAAD guidelines and regulations, and update yourself on the latest coding versions and HAAD directives.
• Train and guide other coders and medical records technicians, and give doctors feedback on coding errors or oversights.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Head of Department and comply with OSH, infection control, waste management and emergency procedures, including attending training and mock drills.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Allied Health Sciences or a related field, with at least 2 years of coding experience.
• Certified Coding Associate (CCA) from AHIMA or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC.
• Excellent command of oral and written English.
• Able to coordinate multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines.

Required skills

• Computer literacy and MS Office.
• Knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and DRG coding.
