Oncology Nurse - Patient Care Coordinator

About the role

This role coordinates and manages care for oncology patients receiving outpatient treatment. It covers direct patient care, care coordination, patient education and support, and advocacy within the healthcare system.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs and assisting with treatments
• Assess patients' functional, environmental, psycho-social and health needs to help plan discharge
• Coordinate care plans and treatment schedules with oncologists, surgeons and radiation therapists
• Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatment options and side effects, and provide emotional support
• Maintain accurate medical records and communicate with physicians, nursing staff, patients and families
• Advocate for patients' needs and report and document in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
• Support patients through symptom management such as pain, nausea and fatigue, and take part in clinical research trials and quality improvement initiatives
• Give tours of the oncology clinic to patients and relatives, and take part in departmental goal setting and committees as requested

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in nursing (minimum 3 years full-time) or a nursing degree (minimum 2 years) with registration as a registered nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand or Australia
• Valid license to practice in the home country or country of last employment
• Minimum of 5 years of recent post-graduate experience in the specialty
• UAE nationals: exempt from experience and clinical training requirements for the applied title; must submit a birth certificate and mother's family book
• Non-UAE nationals from UAE universities must complete 6 months of clinical training after graduation in an APS health facility (except for Registered and Assistant Nurse titles)

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Knowledge of infection control and pain management
• Assessment of patients' physical and psychological needs and care coordination and prioritisation
