Performing Arts Technician

About the role

Yasmina British Academy, part of Aldar Education, is hiring a Performing Arts Technician in Abu Dhabi. The role provides practical and technical support for Music, Drama and Dance lessons, rehearsals, workshops, examinations and performances, and covers music technology, recording studio, podcasting, video production and AV support for school events.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, operate and maintain sound, lighting, projection and playback equipment; support productions, concerts, festivals and competitions.
• Assist with stage management, backstage operations, props, sound and lighting cues, and prepare technical resources for practical drama and dance work.
• Maintain and operate music technology equipment (DAWs, MIDI controllers, microphones, mixing desks, studio monitors) and support recording, editing, mixing and playback.
• Manage the recording studio, record vocals, instruments, ensembles, podcasts and backing tracks, and edit and organise audio files.
• Support podcasting and audio production, including interviews, school broadcasts and digital audio content, while protecting student privacy and consent.
• Support filming and editing of drama work, rehearsals, performances and promotional videos, and help staff and students use video editing software.
• Provide AV support for assemblies, presentations, conferences, parent events and other school activities, including livestreaming where possible.
• Support extracurricular activities, clubs, technical rehearsals and off-site performances, and liaise with the auditorium technician, IT and Operations teams.
• Maintain and organise equipment, carry out routine checks and cleaning, keep accurate inventories and follow health and safety procedures.
• Keep records of equipment and faults, communicate technical requirements in advance, and undergo relevant professional development.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification, training or demonstrable experience in performing arts technology, music technology, sound engineering, AV technology or digital media production.
• Experience working in a school, theatre, live performance or educational performing arts environment.
• Experience operating theatrical lighting desks, DMX lighting, digital audio consoles, wireless microphones, live sound reinforcement and music production software such as Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Pro Tools or GarageBand.
• Knowledge of MIDI, multitrack recording, mixing and audio post-production, and experience recording podcasts or producing digital audio content.
• Experience filming and editing drama performances and educational video content, and supporting musical theatre, live concerts and school productions.
• Technical health and safety training.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends to support scheduled school activities.
