Principal AI Engineer

About the role

EDGE is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to lead the design, development, integration, verification and deployment of advanced AI and computer‑vision solutions for edge and mission‑critical platforms. The role acts as the senior technical authority across AI/ML, computer vision, video analytics, embedded software and system architecture, collaborating with hardware, test, product and programme teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define and develop software requirements, translate system‑level needs into robust architectures and designs.
• Lead end‑to‑end development, integration, verification and field deployment of AI and computer‑vision software on edge and embedded platforms.
• Design, implement and optimise high‑performance video‑analytics and AI algorithms using Python and C++.
• Perform system‑level profiling and optimisation across CPU, GPU, memory and I/O to meet latency, power and reliability constraints.
• Establish and enforce software development standards, coding practices, testing methodologies and quality gates.
• Mentor multidisciplinary technical teams, provide architectural guidance and resolve complex software and embedded‑system issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Computer Engineering or related field.
• 12+ years of professional experience in software engineering, AI/ML or computer vision, with at least 4 years in a principal or lead technical role.
• Strong hands‑on expertise in Python and C/C++ and deep knowledge of modern deep‑learning architectures (CNNs, RNNs/LSTMs, Vision Transformers, GANs, diffusion models).
• Proven track record delivering complex AI solutions from concept through certification and field deployment.
• Experience working on safety‑critical, mission‑critical or defence‑related systems is preferred.
