Resident Medical Officer – General Surgery

About the role

The Resident Medical Officer will support consultants and specialist teams in the General Surgery department, ensuring timely patient assessment, documentation, and coordination of care within Fakeeh Health’s patient‑centered environment.

Key responsibilities

• Interview and evaluate in‑patients, taking comprehensive medical, medication, socioeconomic, psychological and functional histories, and perform relevant physical examinations.
• Document findings, clinical information and progress notes in the EMR, including accurate ICD coding and justification for diagnostic tests such as CT, MRI and ultrasound.
• Conduct daily ward rounds, communicate patient status to attending physicians, and participate in on‑call duties as the first responder.
• Coordinate care among multidisciplinary teams—including nurses, dietitians, social workers, laboratory, radiology and insurance doctors—and ensure proper handover at shift changes.
• Complete discharge summaries, transfer forms and patient education materials, and attend departmental meetings and quality‑safety initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MD) from an accredited institution; MD in General Surgery is an advantage.
• 3–5 years recent experience in busy hospital and surgical settings.
• Ability to work independently, respond promptly to emergencies, and collaborate effectively with the healthcare team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
• Accurate ICD coding and documentation for insurance compliance.
• Ordering and interpreting advanced diagnostic imaging (CT, MRI, ultrasound).
