Secondary English Teacher (Grades 6-12)

About the role

Virginia American School is seeking an enthusiastic Secondary English Teacher to join its Grades 6‑12 programme. The role involves delivering high‑quality English instruction to both boys and girls, with the possibility of future leadership responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging English lessons for grades 10‑12 (or agreed grades).
• Raise student achievement in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
• Monitor, evaluate and report on student progress and attainment.
• Implement enquiry‑based teaching and real‑world connections.
• Use assessment for, of, and as learning to personalise instruction.
• Develop short, medium and long‑term curriculum plans.
• Adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners, including EAL, SEN, Emirati and gifted students.
• Collaborate with the Principal and fulfil any additional reasonable duties.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in English (or higher) and a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Minimum one year of recent secondary English teaching experience.
• Demonstrated excellence in classroom practice and pedagogy.
• Commitment to continuous professional development.

Required skills

• Proficiency in using ICT for digital learning across the curriculum.
