SENDCO – Special Educational Needs Coordinator

About the role

The SENDCO will lead the provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities, ensuring they receive appropriate support to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Reporting to the Principal, the role works closely with teachers, parents and external specialists to develop inclusive practices across the school.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and assess students with SEND through observations, teacher reports and formal assessments.
• Coordinate external assessments with psychologists, speech and language therapists and other specialists.
• Develop, review and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for each SEND student.
• Provide guidance, coaching and resources to teachers to differentiate lessons and assessments.
• Deliver professional development workshops on inclusive education.
• Liaise with external agencies and maintain clear communication with families.
• Ensure compliance with UAE SEND legislation and school policies.

Required profile

• Minimum three years (36 months) of experience working with SEND students.
• Relevant SENDCO or equivalent certification.
• Teaching qualification such as PGCE or equivalent.
• Demonstrated leadership and management abilities.

Required skills

• Knowledge of UAE laws and policies related to SEND and inclusive education.
• Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
• SENDCO qualification or certification.
• Teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent).
• Leadership and management skills.
