Senior Product Designer - Design Systems

About the role

Careem is looking for a Design System Lead to own the evolution of its design system, which underpins the super app covering rides, food, groceries and payments. The role is a hands-on senior individual contributor position for someone who is both a rigorous systems designer and an AI tool builder. It covers the token architecture, component library and documentation, and uses AI to make the system faster to maintain, easier to adopt and smarter to build with.

Key responsibilities

• Own the lifecycle of tokens, components and patterns, from inception through shipping, iteration and deprecation.
• Define and enforce standards for color, type, spacing and interaction across iOS, Android, web and locales, including RTL/Arabic.
• Maintain a clear token architecture and resolve ambiguity about ownership and responsibilities.
• Build comprehensive documentation and champion accessibility (WCAG) as a system-level guarantee, managing the backlog with product and engineering partners.
• Make the system AI-native: structure tokens and components for agentic design-to-code and prompt-to-design workflows, and build Code Connect mappings, MCP integrations and structured component metadata.
• Implement AI-assisted audits and linting to catch off-system usage, and use AI to keep documentation verified and versioned.
• Prototype Figma plugins and agent workflows to reduce repetitive work for the design team.
• Promote adoption by articulating the system's value to stakeholders, running design system guilds and critiques, and raising AI proficiency through workshops and training.
• Work with engineering to turn design patterns into deployable components, manage component bloat, and align on design system goals and product strategy.

Required profile

• 5+ years of product design experience, with at least 3 years dedicated to design systems at scale (ideally multi-brand or super-app).
• Demonstrated experience building workflows with LLMs and agentic tools such as Figma Plugin API, MCP-based integrations or prompt design.
• Ability to prototype in JavaScript/TypeScript and JSON and manage design token pipelines.
• Excellent English writing and presentation skills.
• Bonus: RTL/Arabic-first product experience, production design-to-code pipelines (Code Connect, token transformation), and active participation in the AI x design community.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of variables, token architecture, component APIs and library management.
• Ability to prototype in JavaScript/TypeScript and JSON.
