Senior System Engineer - Test Equipment Development

About the role

EDGE, a defence and emerging technologies group headquartered in the UAE, is hiring a Senior System Engineer for its ADASI business unit, which develops autonomous systems and services. The Test Equipment Systems/Development Engineer designs, develops, integrates, validates and supports the lifecycle of test equipment used to verify the performance, functionality and compliance of UAV systems and subsystems, covering avionics, electrical, mechanical, propulsion, communications and software.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop custom and commercial test equipment, including hardware and software, for system and subsystem verification, and define requirements for ATE, HIL systems, simulation rigs and integration benches.
• Develop test interface hardware, signal conditioning circuits, wiring harnesses and instrumentation for laboratory and field use, in line with aerospace and defence standards.
• Build and maintain automated test software and scripts in Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB/Simulink and C/C++, and integrate test equipment with telemetry, data acquisition and simulation environments.
• Ensure interoperability with RS-422/RS485, MIL-STD-1553/1760, ARINC 429, CAN Bus and Ethernet-based systems, and support HIL testing and closed-loop verification.
• Plan and support verification and validation of test equipment, and maintain calibration plans, preventive maintenance procedures and failure investigation reports.
• Manage configuration control, versioning and change management of test hardware and software.
• Support component-level, subsystem and system integration, environmental, functional, endurance and acceptance testing, and provide full traceability to requirements.
• Maintain test equipment design documentation, test plans, procedures, reports, user manuals, troubleshooting guides and compliance and certification evidence.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering (Master's preferred).
• Minimum 10 years of experience designing and deploying test equipment for aerospace or defence applications, preferably UAV.
• Experience developing ATE and test benches, HIL and simulation systems, and hardware/software integration test solutions.
• Demonstrated experience in safety-critical systems testing, requirements management and traceability, and test planning and reporting.
• English proficiency required.

Preferred qualifications

• Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD)
• INCOSE ASEP or CSEP
• IPC/WHMA A 620 (wire harness assemblies)
• AS9100D or ISO 9001 quality system awareness
