Staff Nurse – Dialysis

About the role

The American Hospital Dubai is seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse specialized in dialysis to deliver patient‑centered care in a high‑acuity environment. The role involves performing assessments, managing hemodialysis treatments, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct blood tests using the Hemocue device and analyze urine samples for abnormalities.
• Insert vascular access needles into arteriovenous fistulas (AVF) and grafts (AVG) and initiate hemodialysis sessions according to hospital protocols.
• Administer medications and intervene promptly in cases of severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.
• Maintain and care for hemodialysis catheters, monitor vital signs and fluid balance, and ensure equipment sterility.
• Document all patient data, participate in unit meetings, and support continuous quality improvement activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (minimum 3‑year program) or equivalent degree with registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand or Australia.
• Valid nursing license/registration in home country or last place of employment.
• Minimum two years recent postgraduate experience in Nephrology Nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certifications.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Hemocue device for haemoglobin measurement.
• Skilled in vascular access needle insertion for AVF/AVG.
• Experience operating hemodialysis machines and managing catheters.
• Ability to recognize and treat anaphylaxis promptly.
