Staff Nurse – Medical & Surgical Ward

About the role

The Staff Nurse will provide age‑appropriate patient care on a medical and surgical ward, supporting the mission, vision and values of Delma Hospital. The role involves delivering safe, evidence‑based nursing care while promoting health education and patient advocacy.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in line with hospital policies and the nursing scope of practice.
• Coordinate individualized care from admission through discharge, including discharge planning.
• Identify and act on significant changes in patient condition, reporting to supervisors or physicians as needed.
• Administer medications safely, monitor patient responses, and report adverse drug reactions and medication errors.
• Supervise and mentor practical nurses, midwives, junior staff and student nurses; act as a preceptor for new staff.
• Participate in performance reviews, organizational change initiatives and interdisciplinary team meetings.
