Surgical Coordinator (Staff Nurse)

About the role

SKMC is recruiting a Surgical Coordinator (Staff Nurse) in Abu Dhabi. The nurse assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care in line with the organisation's policies and procedures and the unit's scope of service, while coordinating individualised care from first contact through discharge planning.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate care across the episode of care, including discharge planning, and prioritise care based on ongoing assessment of patient needs
• Identify significant changes in patient condition and report them to the immediate supervisor or physician
• Take part in referrals and use available resources to support patients and families
• Act as a patient advocate and promote service excellence, including respect for cross-cultural differences
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to deliver patient- and family-centred care
• Administer medications according to policy, understand drug actions and contraindications, evaluate responses and identify side effects; report adverse drug reactions and medication errors
• Follow the Ministry of Health and HA-AD narcotic policies and respond to emergencies
• Work within a cost-effective framework and demonstrate good communication, organisation and critical thinking
